Work-Life Balance

2010 Inter-Departmental Sports Challenge.

The Inter-Departmental Sports Challenge continues to go from strength to strength and with the Sports Hall up and running there are plenty of sporting opportunities. In 2009 we had 633 players take part in the 9 sports provided from 30 different departments. We are hoping with more sports being played in the Stadium next year to be even higher numbers.

The new Curtin Stadium has already provided some great sporting opportunities, not just for Inter-Departmental Sports but also for Evening Social Sports with record participation numbers across the board. Unfortunately we will be losing two sports in 2010 with the Squash Courts closing in May meaning no Squash and we will also lose Golf. We will be replacing Squash with Badminton and hopefully all departments will get right behind this sport just like they did Beach Volleyball in 2009. This year will also see the introduction of two grades for each sport in an attempt to cater for both the social players and serious competitors. Therefore, we are certainly in for an exciting year and it's great to know that the same Recreation Services Team will be running the Competition this year. All Staff are encouraged to get involved, whether you are an individual looking to play or you have a full team of players looking to join in the fun.

The Inter-Departmental Sports Challenge is a great chance to play against other areas/departments in a variety of fun and exciting sports. Sports include:

Netball

Badminton

8-Ball

Soccer

Basketball

Table Tennis

Tennis

Beach Volleyball

Each sport will consist of a round robin competition with finals to decide the WINNING DEPARTMENT. Points will be awarded for each sport played, with the eventual 2009 INTER-DEPARTMENTAL SPORTS CHALLENGE WINNING DEPARTMENT AWARDED AT THE END OF THE YEAR!!

Different players can represent their department in different sports. If a department has more than one team in the sports competition their best team's score will go towards their overall "Challenge Score".
